Serendipity in Mexico City
The adventure kicked off with my friend Achethe nailing down the logistics for a possible trip to visit the Pyramids of the Sun, who, upon a serendipitous request, navigated the digital vastness of Mexico City using GPS data from her previous trip- all from her Apple.
The digital presentation journey took an unexpected turn as she shared her family’s stay location when they visited the area – closer to the museum adorned with Olmec heads. With a burst of technology swag, she sent me screenshots and discussions about cab costs ensued, prompting a search for an Airbnb closer to the majestic pyramids of the sun.
Amidst a spirited debate with a second friend (My last minute travel buddy) who was surprisingly available for the trip to Mexico, the conversation and decision hung in the balance just 24 hours before setting foot in Mexico City. Achethe mapped the chosen Airbnb close to the Pyramids of the Sun, seamlessly intertwining fate and desire. As the clock ticked down, Achethe found herself at the end of aisle 42 in the hardware store, diligently gathering information while I conversed with another customer. Intrigued by Achethe’s tales of her family’s Mexican adventures, I reflected the vivid images of natural water geysers, and her promises that they were even more enchanting in person. The air buzzed excitedly, punctuated by a flurry of text messages filled with exclamation marks and question marks.
“Let’s see watch Black Panther movie in Mexico City!” Our intentions were fulfilled with the decision to visit Mexico City. I text my friend the cultural mission and itinerary. Less than 24hrs left before I touch down in Mexico if this next step goes as planned. The motivating factor in making a decision was fueled by the desire to witness the storyline of ancient Mayan culture woven into the narrative of the second Black Panther movie. The path, however, had its challenges. In a daring move, I reached out to a third friend vacationing in Senegal to assist with booking the flight, surrendering to the universe despite a less-than-secure internet connection. I shared my credit card credentials, but my nerves were on edge; a similar request had been made for a flight to Seattle four hours prior. Little did we know this serendipitous experience would birth the images you are now viewing here on MEXICOCITYLIFESTYLE.
